Welcome to the tutorial: Aligning the FAIR data principles and HL7 FHIR profiling

In the rapidly evolving landscape of healthcare data interoperability, the Health Level Seven Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (HL7 FHIR) standard has emerged as a pivotal framework. Notably, within the FHIR ecosystem, Implementation Guides play a crucial role, offering a structured and narrative specification for constraining and extending the FHIR data model to align with specific usage scenarios. One such notable guide is the FHIR for FAIR Implementation Guide (FHIR4FAIR IG), which seeks to enhance the representation of research artifacts in the FHIR framework.

This tutorial endeavors to delve into the practical aspects of utilizing the FHIR4FAIR IG in selected use cases. It aims to demonstrate the applicability of FHIR in practice, while concurrently identifying current gaps and limitations—especially those pertinent to specific communities. The overarching goal is to foster the ongoing development and utilization of the FHIR4FAIR IG in national and international initiatives.
